DAVID J AND COMRADES
‘LONER’
(12” DAYGLO ORANGE VINYL Out now through Dakota Music Media CD/vinyl)
Launch date 1st September
Falling someplace between prolonged play (keep in mind these?) and LP former Bauhaus and present Love and Rockets bass man returns through Dakota Music with a sequence of deconstructions of an unique twenty some yr previous demo.
Initially streamed as a part of his 2007 sequence of unreleased stash ‘Tracks from the Attic, ’ a precursor to the now vastly profitable platform: Patreon. David’s unique demo titled ‘Albino Canine’ alongside singer/songwriter Mia Doi Todd’s chic studio model each appeared through that platform in 2015; solely the latter seems amongst this new sequence of preparations. David’s premonition of Mia’s voice on this tune is one to be applauded – completely suited making a ghostly sepulchral aura.
Right here the Colonel is aided by a sequence of foot troopers various in rank. Veteran comrade Joyce Rooks provides texture along with her trademark cello to Mia’s ‘Albino Canine’, while privates’ Nigel Gwennap (‘The Day that David Bowie Died’) and Whitehall Rec’s Joel Baldwin contribute electrical guitar and drum programming respectively. However it’s the work of the captain that captivates this entire package deal. Tim Newman (Love is a Ghost), arranger, sound alchemist, mixer and lunatic. Tim’s work with David is greatest savoured through their ‘Analogue Excavations & Dream Excavations’ 2002 Glass Trendy set.
‘Loner’ affords the listener a kaleidoscope of sounds greatest skilled with headphones, the journey from David’s easy ‘Albino Canine’ strummed acoustic demo to ‘Crescendo’ is kind of staggering. Joel’s synth on ‘Chilly, Chilly, Chilly’ and the glitch added to Mia’s vocal (‘Loner on the Vary’) for instance take the tune into an altogether completely different course. However it’s ‘Crescendo’ although that sits atop the apex. Constructing, because the title suggests, right into a blistering array of guitars, bass and drums with a stunning, ethereal repeating low vocal motif from Mia wrapping itself across the cacophony.
