It has been nearly a decade since followers final heard from Cautious, the artwork pop venture of multi-instrumentalist and producer Eric Lindley. Lindley describes Promise / Observe as a meditation on loss and its lead single is a sparse and heartbreaking reflection of the file’s theme. Written within the aftermath of the Uvalde capturing, the music finds Lindley putting himself within the perspective of a mother or father who misplaced their youngster: “You promised that you simply’d be right here / Buttoned up and brilliant as gun metal / I’m holding flowers / And all of the world is blunted enamel / Is our bodies all the identical / Is sleeping, calling out your title.” All all through, Lindley narrates the mother or father’s grief in an aching whisper, surrounded by oscillating synth melodies and sparse keys.
