Ratboys—composed of members Julia Steiner (guitar, vocals), Dave Sagan (guitar), Marcus Nuccio (drums), and Sean Neumann (bass)—ventured to Seattle to work with producer Chris Walla (Demise Cab for Cutie, Tegan and Sara, Foxing) when making The Window. The album was virtually absolutely crafted earlier than heading into the studio, however Walla pushed the band to increase their imaginative and prescient, including surprising devices similar to rototoms, talkboxes, and fiddles.
Of “The Window,” Steiner says in a press launch: “ I wrote this track just a few days after the dying of my grandma in June of 2020. She didn’t have COVID, however due to the pandemic my grandpa wasn’t in a position to go to her in particular person on the nursing house to say goodbye. He ended up standing outdoors her room and saying goodbye by an open window. Numerous the lyrics are direct quotes of issues he mentioned to her in these closing moments.”
These melancholy themes of grief are current on the monitor as its wrenching and poignant lyrics are weaved in between lamentful guitar twangs and a stirring percussion.
