Chicago indie rockers Ratboys have shared a music video for his or her newest track, “The Window,” which is the title monitor for his or her upcoming album. The Window is due out August 25 through Topshelf. The music video was directed by John TerEick. Watch the video beneath adopted by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Ratboys—composed of members Julia Steiner (guitar, vocals), Dave Sagan (guitar), Marcus Nuccio (drums), and Sean Neumann (bass)—ventured to Seattle to work with producer Chris Walla (Demise Cab for Cutie, Tegan and Sara, Foxing) when making The Window. The album was virtually absolutely crafted earlier than heading into the studio, however Walla pushed the band to increase their imaginative and prescient, including surprising devices similar to rototoms, talkboxes, and fiddles.

Of “The Window,” Steiner says in a press launch: “ I wrote this track just a few days after the dying of my grandma in June of 2020. She didn’t have COVID, however due to the pandemic my grandpa wasn’t in a position to go to her in particular person on the nursing house to say goodbye. He ended up standing outdoors her room and saying goodbye by an open window. Numerous the lyrics are direct quotes of issues he mentioned to her in these closing moments.”

These melancholy themes of grief are current on the monitor as its wrenching and poignant lyrics are weaved in between lamentful guitar twangs and a stirring percussion.

Ratboys beforehand shared the track “It’s Alive” (which was #1 on our Songs of the Week listing) and “Black Earth, WI”(which additionally made our Songs of the Week listing).
