New and Noteworthy J-popIn reference to my want to totally sustain with the J-pop business, I’m planning on doing a weekly round-up of any new releases which have caught my ear. A few of these might have been coated on the weblog already, however my hope is that it will develop into a one-stop store for anybody thinking about what’s new in J-pop.

With that in thoughts, right here’s the place you are available in: I’m one individual with one set of musical preferences, so please embed every other new J-pop tracks you’ve loved within the feedback so we will get a fuller spectrum every week.

*And similar to I do with my critiques, I’ll wait till full variations of songs can be found earlier than posting them on this round-up. It will largely apply to Johnny’s teams, who nonetheless restrict nearly all of their YouTube uploads to shorter, edited variations.

2023 Index: Feb 1 – Feb 18 // Feb 19 – 25 // Feb 26 – Mar 3 // Mar 4 – Mar 10 // Mar 11 – Mar 18 // Mar 19 – Mar 25 // Mar 26 – Apr 1 // Apr 2 – Apr 8 // Apr 9 – Apr 15 // Apr 16 – Apr 22 // Apr 23 – Apr 29 // Apr 30 – Could 6 // Could 7 – Could 13 // Could 14 – Could 20 // Could 21 – Could 27

DISH// – Finish roll wa kanashikunai

It is a good center floor between their ballads and upbeat rockers. I just like the anthemic really feel to the instrumental.

Hey! Say! JUMP – Expensive My Lover / Uraomote

Expensive My Lover is customary Johnnys-does-drama-OST fluff, however Uraomote is likely one of the coolest singles the group’s launched shortly. I recognize the tougher edge, and the music video can also be very hanging.

Their b-side Villain can also be excellent and attention-grabbing. It could be my b-side of the week besides I can’t embed it because it’s not on streaming.

IVE – Traditional

I’m undecided I’m as enamored with this b-side as most appear to be (it’s good!), but it surely definitely continues IVE’s robust run of fabric.

Juice=Juice – Delight Vivid

Plenty of vitality, and I like the electrical guitar driving a lot of the observe.

Sakurazaka46 – Begin Over! (single of the week!)

I wrote about this right here. I liked it, and it’s my single of the week!

Sandaime J Soul Brothers – Hand In Hand

I’m not an enormous fan of J Soul Brothers’ ballads, so this joins the ranks of different tracks I’m more likely to skip on their albums.

Sekai No Owari – Turquoise

I actually like this tune. For a band with a literal clown amongst their roster, I’m stunned it took them this lengthy to do a circus-themed music video. Plus… there’s bagpipes!

SKY-HI – Dream Out Loud (ft. ØZI)

There was a time I used to be tremendous into SKY-HI’s music. That pleasure has tempered with the years, and this pleasant-but-inessential observe is unlikely to encourage a renaissance.

Twice – Hare Hare / Catch A Wave (b-side of the week!)

I wrote about Hare Hare right here. I appreciated it, and Catch A Wave can also be very robust. Actually, it’s my b-side of the week!

Yuma Uchida – 1 LOVE 1

So far as upbeat pop beats go, that is fairly irresistible. Very summery!

Dream – Personal Wars (2000)

My first ever J-pop tune, and sure the primary Asian pop tune I’d ever heard. It’s nonetheless one in all my all-time favorites, bolstered by an epic instrumental that feels bigger than life.
